5 Ways to Declutter Your Space

Does your space need decluttering? Well, join the club. We have meetings every Thursday. All members are required to bring a snack. In all seriousness, throwing things away isn’t as hard as we make it. You just have to be willing to get rid of things you aren’t using, in order to have a neat and organized home. Once you start you might just finally find those decorations from last Christmas. It is especially amazing if you have a small living space. Grab a shovel then sit down and read. After these 5 ways to declutter your space, you’ve got some trash bags to fill my friend.

Broken Things.  Have you ever shoved something in the back of your closet with the thought “oh I will just fix it later”? Then a solid five months go by and it’s safe to say it’s not going to happen. If you have not gotten to it then you have more than likely replaced it or learned to live without it. However, you don’t have to throw it away. Depending on what it is you can probably sell it for parts. If the condition isn’t too bad you can probably sell it in general. There are people all over the internet looking for a DIY project.

Ill-Fitting Clothing. If your weight has changed dramatically, I doubt your old clothes are still doing it for ya. Some stuff you can still wear as oversized or with a belt or something to make them work. However, that rule does not apply to everything. Sort through the things you can still wear and the things you can’t. If they are still in good condition don’t throw them away. Sell them online, hit up Plato’s closet, or have a garage sale. If you don’t have the need for the money, donate them. There are shelters full of people that would love your gently used clothes.

Useless Things. If you bought a bread maker but no longer eat bread, I’m sure you know what to do. There is no reason for you to hold on to that thing. It’s just collecting dust under your kitchen sink. Maybe you use to use it, but you’ve changed your eating habits. I understand, but still, get rid of it.  Especially if it is new. Mercari, Amazon, Offer Up, Let Go, and my bay, eBay that is, are all online apps that allow you to sell your new and used items all over the globe. I’m sure someone would love a brand new reduced-priced bread maker. I can smell the home-made pumpkin seed loaf coming together right now.

Things You Never Use. My mom is the queen of sales. She is always finding a steal at a Ross or TJMaxx. Some of these items usually end up with me. Not always but, I check with her before I go out and buy certain things. I say this to say, sometimes you might buy things just because they are on sale. However, this how you start to build clutter. Just because gum is on sale by the case does not mean that you need a 200pk of Smooth Mint Extra. You’re not going to chew it all and the one pack in your bag is just going melt to your lip gloss. The rest will end up in the closet with those clearance dresses with the tags on them.

Lifestyle Changes. If you are now an alkaline vegan, I’m sure you know you can get rid of those coupons for ground beef. Out of the 5 ways to declutter your space, I would think this is the easiest. If it no longer fits into your lifestyle, then get rid of it. People make lifestyle changes to live their best life. To be a happier version of themselves. It will probably feel very freeing to get rid of all the things that remind you of your former less happy self. Let that person go as you set up your PayPal account to sell these things right out of your new life.

After creating a list using these 5 ways to declutter your space, you will be surprised how much room you have. You will have organized piles in storage containers and trash bags in no time. Making the list and keeping organized while doing this will help you with what you are going to trash, donate, sell, and give away. I hope that your donation pile is the biggest. Do you make a list to declutter? Would you rather keep the clutter? What’s your thought process?
