When you’re not feeling your best try playing something that doesn’t perfectly match your mood. For example, I would try not to listen to my favorite Adele songs. As beautiful as her voice is, it is not a good idea to listen to her “21” album after you’ve been crushed. You might catch yourself crying in the rain with a cigarette lighter. Hurt feelings do not equal logic. You may just think that you can actually set fire to the rain. What I’m getting at is when you are sad listening to a sad song it just amplifies it. So, if you are trying to shake the mood try listening to something where the person is triumphant in the end.

Let’s call that “moving on music.” There are so many songs where the protagonist prevails after a tragic. The words mix with the beat moves you and relates to what you are going through. Reminding you that this too shall pass and you can dance a little. There is something about listening to someone put your feelings into a song. Making you feel like it might just be okay. The goal is to let the lyrics remind you that you are not alone, we all go through it, and to pep you up.

In college, I use to make playlists for my emotions. The playlist for my negative mood was called “Cheer Up”, for example. After the tears, I would sit alone with my earbuds and start my process of healing. As I sat there, I would dance off beat, write, and daydream about what I was going to do next. Listening to my playlist added some sunshine into my mood. Due to life situations, sometimes you just need a healthy distraction. Music can move your mood up or down with the drop of a beat. When you go to choose a song to fit your current feelings use a cheat sheet on how music affects your mood.

  1. I listen to music in a variety of moods. I may play sad music when I’m sad just so I can get to the bottom of that feeling or upbeat music when I’m feeling hyper just to complement my mood. But my best times for playing music is while working. I like to turn it up so it’s banging in my head. I know it’s crazy but it helps me concentrate.

But my play-any-time tracks are by Ed Sheeran, Asa and Travis Scott
PS: I like your blog. Been going through but the music one caught my eyes. Keep it up.
